Military-family bedtime guide
A five-recording bedtime plan before duty takes you away
You do not need a studio or a perfect performance. Start with five short recordings that match the moments your family already repeats: hello, story, song, reassurance, and goodnight.
LullabyGlow is an independent family product from Morale Call LLC. It is not endorsed by Fort Belvoir, the Army, the Air Force, the Department of Defense, Military OneSource, or Sesame Workshop.
Keep the familiar order
Military OneSource recommends keeping home routines as consistent as possible during deployment, and Sesame Street for Military Families suggests preserving regular activities such as bedtime stories. A recording works best as one part of the routine the at-home caregiver already leads—not as a replacement for live connection or support.
The ordinary hello
Record 20–40 seconds using the nickname, greeting, or small joke your child already hears. Ordinary language often feels more recognizable than a formal speech.
One familiar story
Read a short book you already own, tell a family story in your own words, or describe a favorite shared memory. Keep copyrighted recordings inside your private family use.
The song you actually sing
A verse of a family lullaby, service-family tradition, prayer, or quiet humming is enough. The goal is familiarity, not performance quality.
A message for a hard night
Say what stays true when plans change: who is caring for them, when the recording can be played, and one simple phrase your household can repeat together.
The exact goodnight
Finish with the same short closing you normally use. Ask the at-home caregiver to place it at the same point in the bedtime sequence.
Make the handoff easy
- Record before the separation when possible, then play the files once on the device the caregiver will use.
- Name recordings by moment—“After the story” or “Hard-night message”—instead of by file number.
- Invite one trusted grandparent or relative to add variety, especially when calls are limited by time zone or duty schedule.
- Keep live calls, letters, photos, and installation family resources in the plan. A recording is one tool, not the whole connection.
- If a child shows persistent or worsening distress, use qualified military-family, pediatric, or mental-health support rather than relying on an app.
